May 19, 2013 … RONCO Ez- Store Rotisserie oven makes debut at The Shopping Channel!!

And what a great debut for one of THE BEST items I have ever had the pleasure to present.

Remember the large rotisserie ovens from RONCO? The ones that needed a storage space of their own? Typically on a big shelf in the garage? No more! RONCO has taken all of the features and benefits we love in a rotisserie and put them in a countertop unit that nests to store (under 8″) and still can roast a 15 pound turkey.

    And there’s more!!

I could not believe how easy this was to use. I get a lot of kitchen items to try. I mean A LOT! So you can imagine how jam packed my kitchen is. The last thing I want is an item that needs storage that is not useful. Opened the box, husband Andy at the ready to put together what I expected to be a zillion pieces. NOPE!! Pretty much fully assembled. Pop back the feet, top in place, spit rods attached. No kidding, ready to roast.

Of course we did a chicken first. You gotta love the supermarkets and big box stores and those rows of chickens roasting to perfection on the lines of spits. Hot and juicy. Buy one. Get it home and pop in fridge. First, check the label. At least 10 ingredients, half of which you can’t pronounce. Am I wrong here? And the gelatinous goop on the bottom of carrier. Nasty!!

I bought a fresh chicken. Ingredients - chicken. Popped it on the spit. Salt. Pepper. A bit of paprika for color. Set it into oven. I followed directions provided in a guidebook for cooking times. I set it. And walked away. Set it and forget it. You know something? They were not kidding!! I walked away. Left the entire unit on my countertop. Bird turning on rotisserie spit. Self basting. Fats dripping into tray on bottom. HEALTHY COOKING! One hour and change later and we had dinner -  a beautifully roasted bird. Hot, juicy, MOIST as a river. YUMMY!!!

I made it myself. You do not need to be a gourmet cook to do this.

Did we become semi-obsessed? Indeed. Now mind you, I was practicing so I could show off to Canada, but I also LOVED that I could make a hot dinner for the family and at the same time, I could work in my office, do laundry, make beds … I am busy. Roast and multi task. Me likie!

What next, you ask? How about a prime rib roast? Followed by marinated pork loin. Baskets of roasted veggies. A couple racks of ribs on the BBQ baskets oh, and kebobs on the eight kabob rods. And grilled fruit!! Instant summer fun! No grill time. More guest time.

Easy to set up. Easy to load, Easy to clean up because everything is dishwasher safe with the exception of the base.

WOW!!!! Been in the house for 6 weeks and it has been used at least 12 times. Sits on my countertop because it is about the size of a toaster oven. Grilled, roasted, perfectly caramelized vegetables. No oven. No grill. No flames. No charcoal or propane worries. A few last words? Moist, drippy juicy, crispy skins, sugar sweet roasted veg.

We are in love. Y0u can find this unit here on Amazon.com. WELL WORTH IT!!

There’s New Royalty in Town, Marie Louise Ludwig Crowned Taste of Home’s Mrs. Holiday

Phoenixville, Pennsylvania Resident Named as Ambassador of the Holidays,

Earns $50,000 Prize and Will Become Taste of Home Spokesperson

New York, NY – November 15, 2012 – The search for America’s Mrs. Holiday is over! Marie Louise Ludwig of Phoenixville, PA has claimed the Mrs. Holiday crown, which she earned with a winning combination of sparkly holiday spirit, enthusiasm and her signature Holiday Snow Globe Cake. In addition, Marie Louise will take home a $50,000 prize, which will no doubt contribute to some top-notch Christmas decorations.

Befitting her title, Mrs. Holiday likes to bring a little holiday spirit to every day of the week, especially when her friends and family need some holiday cheer in their lives. In fact, she keeps her fully decorated Christmas tree up all year round. “Every day should feel like Christmas,” says Marie Louise Ludwig, “I like to keep the spirit of Christmas going all year.”

To help spread her award-winning holiday joy, Mrs. Holiday loves to prepare her now famous Coconut Raspberry cake, inspired by a cake that her grandmother used to bake. The decorations on the cake change depending on the occasion, and for Christmas, Marie Louise makes a Holiday Snow Globe Cake, complete with frosted Christmas trees and snowmen.

“We are excited to have Marie Louise Ludwig as our new Mrs. Holiday,” says Catherine Cassidy, Taste of Home’s editor in chief. “Her endless holiday spirit and energy exemplifies exactly what this pageant seeks to promote.” Marie Louise and her signature Holiday Snow Globe Cake are featured in the December/January issue of Taste of Home magazine.

The Mrs. Holiday contest was conducted by Taste of Home magazine, and sponsored by Imperial Sugar and Dixie Crystals. There are more than 65 million fans of the magazine, its iPad edition, website, books and special interest publications. Readers count on Taste of Home to be their go-to recipe resource for the holidays and all year. Website traffic at TasteofHome.com increases by 25%-40% before every holiday, for example.

Unlike pageants such as Miss America, consumers and Taste of Home readers played a role in picking Mrs. Holiday. Voting occurred from June 4th to September 7th at facebook.com/TasteofHome. Mrs. Holiday was selected by the Taste of Home editors from among the top 100 most popular votes by a panel of experts. The Popular Vote winner was Brittany Allyn of Nashville, TN whose Pinecone Cheese Ball garnered the most social media votes.

As Mrs. Holiday, Marie Louise will support Taste of Home in its prominent position as a go-to digital and print source of holiday recipes, tips and tricks. Her features in the magazine, on tasteofhome.com and across social media channels will help the active community of home cooks celebrate and make the holidays more personal throughout the year.

    A LITTLE ABOUT ME …

Marie Louise Ludwig has been cooking since she was old enough to join her tiny Italian grandma and namesake, Marie in the kitchen,  adding “ a pinch of this and a handful of that” while perched on a speckled red kitchen chair!  Her passion for baking, most especially, came around the age of three as she delighted in being rewarded for being her grandma’s helper not only in getting to lick every cake batter bowl clean, but also in rolling out her first pie crusts.  Grandma let her do EVERYTHING in the kitchen, including making a mess! She was a great scratch baker and home cook and a wonderful and patient teacher!  Marie Louise learned from the best!

As the years went by, she continued to be the chef in everyone’s kitchen, making great meals inspired both by family traditions and with her own creativity.  She began entering national recipe contests while in college in 1983. She won her first contest “Chef Boyardee Pizza Cook-Off” while a senior at Bowling Green State University in Ohio.  In 1989, she went on to take the grand prize, a tomato red Chrysler Convertible,  in the “Hunt’s Great Recipe Hunt”  with her “4-alarm Chili Mac.”  In 1995, she took top honors in the Bays English Muffin recipe contest with her “Jumpin’ Jack and Pepper Pizzas,” and won $18,000. A month later, she won $10,000 for charity in the “Newman’s Own Recipe Contest” with “The Left Handed Gunslinger’s Grilled Gazpacho with Gunpowder Croutons.” That same month, she won first place in the Family Circle Magazine Bread recipe contest using hot dog buns as a basis for a cute twist on French toast, “Berry Banana Split French Toast.”

Her love for food and cooking wafted her into the restaurant business where she was both manager and pastry chef for one of the busiest gourmet mall restaurant  chains on the east coast. Later, she went on to host her own cooking show, “What’s Cooking,” for several seasons in the Philadelphia Market. Her breakout in national TV came in the fall of 2000 when she was granted her “Food Fantasy” on the Food Network.  She was given the dream to cook for a hungry table when she was taken to a lumberjack festival where she whipped up her famous Chicken Fried Steak, buttermilk biscuits and peach pie for 15 strapping and starving competitors – on a stage and in the middle of a crackling thunderstorm.

In December 2000 she was asked to be a guest for kitchen items on QVC, where she has spent the last 13 years and over 2000 airings as a kitchen product specialist and has had the opportunity to present her own one hour show  on QVC “Simply Baking with Marie Louise Kier” in the fall of 2009.

In the fall of 2008, Marie Louise was asked to co-host an international TV infomercial for OrGreenic ceramic based cookware with Australian Chef and TV host Jason Roberts.  This infomercial can now be seen on TVs around the world.

Marie Louise resides on a small organic farm in Pennsylvania with her husband, Andy. She has three grown children Ryan, Stephanie and Nicholas. When she is not sharing the kitchen with Andy, a  chef and caterer, both can be found in their huge organic  garden where they grow and can everything from 20 varieties of tomatoes to berries, lettuces, cabbage, corn, cucumbers and more. As the mother of a grown adult daughter with autism, she is also a huge advocate for autistic adult care and founder of “Stephanie’s House” a non-profit organization raising money to build LIFE homes for adults with autism. www.stephanieshouse.org.
